Analysis of a Title Sequence

The purpose of the title sequence is to introduce the film to the audience. It introduces the film to the audience, lets them know the genre/sub-genre, gives information about the location and setting, introduces the characters to the audience, and it can also be a clue to the period that the film is set in. The title sequence is to warn the audience that the film is about to start, and gives them vital information, such as who the film is starring and who it is directed by.

The title sequence that I have chosen to analyze is the 2004 film, "The Incredibles".

"The Incredibles" fits into the action and fantasy genre.

The very first shot of the title sequence is introducing the title of the film;

Next is the Director's name, "Written & Directed by Brad Bird'. The director comes first in the title sequence because the audience may recognize his name, as he may be the reason that they are watching the film. He also comes first as he is the most important person. The Producer, Executive Producer and Associate Producer follow the Director.

Next is the name of the Music Producer - Michael Giacchino.

After the Music Producer is the Story Supervisor, Mark Andrews.

Next, the Film Editor, Stephen Schaffer, is shown.

Following the Story Supervisor is the Supervising Technical Director, Rick Sayre.

Next is the Production Designer, Lou Romano.

After the Production Designer is the Character Design, Tony Fucile & Teddy Newton.

After the Character Design is the Supervising Animators, Tony Fucile, Steven Clay Hunter & Alan Barillaro.

Next is the Directors of Photography, Janet Lucroy, Patrick Lin & Andrew Jimenez.

Following the Directors of Photography is the Art Director, Ralph Eggleston, and the Shading Art Director, Bryn Imagire.

After the previous title is the Character Supervisor, Bill Wise.

Next, comes the Hair & Cloth Simulation Supervisor, Mark Thomas Henne.

After the Hair & Cloth Simulation Supervisor is the Sequence Supervisor, Nigel Hardwidge.

Following the Sequence Supervisor is the Effects Supervisor, Sandra Karpman.

Next is the Rendering Supervisor, Don Schreiter.

After the Rendering Supervisor is the Production Manager, Katherine Sarafian.

Following the previous title sequence is the Sound Designer, Randy Thom.

Finally, the Cast is shown in order of appearance.
